About the event

This 6-week hybrid class blends a mindfulness meditation practice with an opportunity to journal thoughts and stories in a "free-write" format using provided images, prompts, and quotes.

In this multidisciplinary practice, we will create an ambiance of trust, and mutual acceptance to allow for creative risks to blossom. By learning the tools of mindfulness and active listening, participants will come away with confidence and emboldened to take creative risks in their writing and to share openly in a safe environment. Sharing stories can be transformative and powerful!

We do not pathologize, diagnose, or seek to solve participants' challenges.

Bio

Shelley Karpaty is a resident of the Coachella Valley upon relocation from the Bay Area over 3 years ago. She has been forging her way as a professional writer and certified mindfulness meditation guide locally and online. As a meditation practitioner for 12+ years, she is certified in the Vipassana (Insight) tradition with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. She continues to be the resident Mindfulness teacher at the infamous Two Bunch Palms since 2023 and is an upcoming teacher at the Mizell Center in Palm Springs. As an inquisitive learner of social psychology, she is also a Certified Enneagram Coach.

Her writing is published on her Spicy Soul Mama Substack and has been published in The Sun, Business Insider, LAYoga, SFYoga, and Elephant Journal to name a few. She also has an essay in a book anthology of short stories, "Six Feet Apart... in the Time of Corona" in 2022.

When she's not teaching or writing, she enjoys cooking, hiking, yoga, art museums, exploring Joshua Tree, and spending time with her family and dog, Lucy.
